Jim Povolo (born February 11, 1987) is an American actor, singer and performer based in Chicago. He is best known for his work with American musical theatre company Team StarKid.

Early Life and Education[]

Jim attended the University of Michigan where he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's in Screen Arts and Cultures / Film. She has since gone on to complete Stanford University's Code in Place program in 2023.

Work[]

Jim featured in the 2018 film Galaxy Lords as Hagglehawk the Wafe Lord.

Outside of acting, Jim currently works in Technical Support.

StarKid Productions[]

Jim met the members of StarKid while collaborating in UoM's university's student-run theatre organization, Basement Arts. In 2007, Jim featured in the pre-StarKid web series Little White Lie as Jim.

Following this, in 2009, Jim featured in A Very Potter Musical as both Gregory Goyle and Rumbleroar. The show sold out its four performances at UMich. A recorded version of the show that was posted on YouTube for family members to watch went viral. In response to the musicals popularity StarKid Productions was formed with Jim as one of its founding members.

Jim went on to reprise his role as Goyle in both A Very Potter Sequel and A Very Potter Senior Year alongside appearing as Firenze. Jim has since gone on to appear in three more StarKid musicals as well as featuring in Apocalyptour and StarKid Homecoming. He also performed a show as part of StarKid's 2016 summer season.

Personal Life[]

Jim currently resides in Chicago. In 2018, on National Coming Out Day, she revealed that she identifies with both the male and female aspects of her gender and prefers not to be confined by any expectations. He uses he/him/his or she/her/hers or “whatever pronoun you want”[1].

Trivia[]

  • Jim is 6 foot 4.5 inches.
  • The band Jim and the Povolos was named after him but he is not a member.
